 • Downtown Dallas

Downtown Dallas has become a thriving place to live as well as work. Residences are available in loft conversions, apartments, luxury town homes or upscale condominium towers. Downtown Dallas is also where you will find the largest urban arts scene in the United States. The most significant performing arts complex to be built since Lincoln Center in New York, the Dallas Center for the Performing Arts will showcase music, opera, theater and dance when it opens in 2009.

Turtle Creek, Uptown and Oak Lawn

North of the city’s downtown are the neighborhoods of Turtle Creek and Uptown. The Turtle Creek area, which includes Oak Lawn, is the most upscale and resembles the Upper East Side in Manhattan with its prominent urban greenbelts, Turtle Creek and Reverchon Parks, ringed by luxury high-rise buildings. These high-rises give breathtaking views of the Dallas skyline. Nearby Uptown is favored by young urban professionals for its pedestrian-friendly street scene and its mix of residential units, hip clothing shops, theaters, restaurants and other businesses.

Lakewood and East Dallas

A more hilly topography, verdant creek ways with miles of jogging and bike trails and scenic White Rock Lake make this part of town one of the most popular to live in. The area is home to the Dallas Arboretum, The Bath House Cultural Center and the historic Casa Linda Shopping Center, which is surrounded by Spanish-colonial houses from the 1930s and 1940s.

University Park and Highland Park

The exclusive University Park and Highland Park are two incorporated municipalities with their own police force, city services, and school district, an island of exclusivity surrounded by the city of Dallas. Just five miles north of the city center, the Park Cities is gracefully laid out around an abundance of parks, more than 20 altogether, and block after block of old-world mansions. The area is home to Southern Methodist University and Highland Park Village shopping center, which has been designated a National Historic Landmark.

Bluffview

Once a dairy farm, Bluffview was developed in the 1920s to make room for country-like estates. Today these secluded homes are prized for their spacious lots on beautiful rolling terrain, all close within the city limits. Bluffview draws its name from the nearby Bachman Creek, with its 50-foot chalk cliffs overlooking a tangle of greenbelt. Because of this stunning topography, some of Dallas’ most prominent families and architects have built homes here.

Preston Hollow

Preston Hollow is an extremely desirable location, and the list of famous and influential residents who live here reads like a virtual "Who's Who" of Dallas society: Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban, billionaire Ross Perot, former Dallas mayor Laura Miller and others call Preston Hollow home. With such a pedigree, it should come as no surprise that this is considered a very exclusive neighborhood, with large lots and a mix of homes that range from ranch-style to mansions reminiscent of the Great Gatsby. NORTH DALLAS COMMUNITIES

Plano

One of Dallas’ largest suburbs, Plano is 20 miles north of downtown Dallas. Served by several major highways, Plano is home to corporations like EDS, JC Penney, Perot Systems and Frito-Lay. Its housing stock is mostly single-family homes, although townhomes are becoming popular. Homes in areas like the Willow Bend subdivision are priced in the millions of dollars. Plano’s schools are considered among the best in the area.

Richardson

One of Dallas’ oldest suburbs, Richardson grew up around the Texas Instruments corporate campus. Richardson has a high concentration of high-technology companies with about 500 large and small companies. Housing in Richardson is in a revival mode with several new housing projects under way, and custom builders are renovating older homes for young families, who like the Richardson schools.

Frisco

One of the fastest-growing cities in Texas, Frisco is a far northern suburb. The well-planned area is attractive for younger families because of its quality schools and after-school programs. FC Dallas, the area’s professional soccer team, plays at a new stadium in Frisco. There is also a popular minor league baseball team that plays in Frisco.

Addison

Addison is one of the Dallas area’s most popular destinations. With more than 170 restaurants and 22 hotels, Addison offers abundant opportunities for lodging, dining and shopping, all within 4.3 square miles. Addison perfectly blends the diversity of a big city with the ambiance of a small town. Addison also promises the most prestigious shopping in the Dallas area, including the Dallas Galleria with Nordstrom and Saks Fifth Avenue.

Southlake

Southlake has evolved from a purely rural community into a leading suburb in North Texas. It was named in 2006 by D Magazine as the best Dallas/Fort Worth suburb. Within 20 miles of downtown Dallas and downtown Fort Worth, Southlake offers a unique blend of excellent location and an extraordinary quality of life with safe neighborhoods and available land.
