The combined Dallas/Fort Worth metropolitan area has roughly 6
million people. With more than 370 people moving to the Metroplex
every day and more than 200 new jobs being added daily, Dallas has a
bright future. Many relocating are young employees, looking for an
exciting new life in Texas. The average age is about 33 years old,
several years younger than the national average.
The information age was born in Dallas when Nobel Laureate Jack
Kilby invented the first computer microchip at Texas Instruments
Corp. Twenty-two Fortune 500 corporations are headquartered in the
Dallas/Fort Worth area.
Dallas and Fort Worth each has a world-class arts district. In
Dallas, the growing arts district offers museums, concert and
performance halls and one of the nation’s premier high schools for
the visual and performing arts.
Dallas/Fort Worth is also one of the nation’s best sports towns with
professional sports teams at various levels.
Within 100 miles of the cities, there are 400 public parks and more
than 60 lakes. Fair Park near downtown Dallas features the largest
collection of buildings designed in 1930s art deco style. And under
development is a 5-acre park linking Uptown and downtown across a
major highway. Also under development is a major park and lake
system along the Trinity River.
Texas is the second-largest state in the United States with
almost 23 million people, behind only California in population. It
has more than 262,000 square miles, second only to Alaska in size.
But Texas is more than just size. It is a state of mind. From the
early cowboys and adventurers to modern-day business entrepreneurs,
Texas offers a unique lifestyle that is characterized by a
self-reliant, fun-loving, hard-working spirit. A popular slogan sums
up the attitude of many: “I wasn’t born here, but I got here as fast
as I could.”
The major cities dominate the Texas landscape, each offering a
different lifestyle. Dallas/Fort Worth and Houston are large
commercial centers. Dallas is home to some of the nation’s largest
corporations and emerging businesses. The Dallas/Fort Worth
International Airport, with almost 2,000 flights a day, makes North
Texas one of the world’s most accessible areas.
Houston is riding the current oil boom with many of the global
petroleum companies headquartered there. Austin, the state capital,
is home to both state government and the University of Texas.
Considered the prettiest part of the state as the gateway to the
Texas Hill Country, Austin is the center of Texas’ high-technology
industry. And it is one of the best places to party as the home of
the burgeoning Texas music industry.
Texas is a special place that daily attracts thousands of newcomers
who come to work, learn at one of its outstanding colleges and
universities, play golf year-round and relax in one of its many
fun-loving cultural venues.
